Facts about Flügger

Flügger is an international company which takes its starting point in Scandinavia. The turnover is approximately DKK 2,160 million. The company is listed and has about 1.700 employees.

With roots dating back to 1783 the company was originally family owned. Majority shareholder is Ulf Schnack, who took over after his father in 1970. Since 1st of April 2021, Sune Schnack has been the CEO of Flügger.

Flügger designs and markets a wide and coordinated assortment within decorative painting, wood protection, spackling paste, wallpaper and tools, of a high quality. We sell our products via the retail chain Flügger Decor which consists of a total of 372 stores in the Nordic region, Eastern Europe and China. Flügger owns approximately two thirds of these stores.

Most people have heard of the chain concept of Flügger. But Flügger is much more than that. We have been presented with a number of awards within design, and we produce trendsetting design wallpaper.

Flügger is market leader in Denmark. The company also sells products to DIY stores through the sales unit Unicell Nordic. In Denmark the distributor chain PP professional paint A/S is also owned and operated by Flügger, and in 2019 Detale CPH ApS became part of the Flügger family.

In November 2019, Flügger acquired 60% of the shares in Unicell Poland Sp. z. o. o., - a paint manufacturer headquartered in Wasilków, Poland. The majority of Unicell's products are sold to retailers, DIY stores and other retailers. Unicell Poland employs approximately 200 employees and has sales of approximately DKK 145 million annually. The acquisition is in line with Flügger's strategy for growth through acquisitions with a focus on emerging markets.

In fall 2020, Flügger acquired the majority stake in Eskaro Group AB, an international paint group with operations in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia and Finland. The company employs around 1,100 people and generates annual revenues of approximately DKK 420 million. Eskaro operates six factories that produce more than 30 million litres of paint, varnish and primer a year.

Like Unicell, Eskaro primarily sells its products through dealers and builders’ merchants.

Flügger has five factories located in three different countries, which produce both tools, paint, and designer wall paper. Our paint factory in Kolding from 1970 is the oldest factory within Flügger. The wall paper factory in Gdansk, Poland, is our latest and was built in 2009.

Denmark

In the Danish city Kolding millions of liters of paint are manufactured.

The factory in Kolding annually manufactures around 30 million liters of water-based paint, wood preservation and wall paper adhesive.

The factory, which was built in 1970, was rebuilt in 1978 after a devastating fire. When the factory was modernised, at the same time it was decorated by the artist Poul Gernes, who is famous for his systematic work with colours. One of Gernes' most extensive pieces is painted directly on one of the walls in the factory.

Sweden

Three minor Swedish cities each have their own Flügger factory.

Bollebygd

Annually the factory in Bollebygd near Göteborg manufactures 30 million liters of water-based and solvent-based paint, wood preservation, cleaning products, and filler.

Flügger modernizes and consolidates the Group's production plants. As part of this, the Swedish production of water-based paints will be fully relocated to Kolding from 2022, and the production of paint in Bollebygd, Sweden, will therefore be gradually shut down. The consolidation and modernization of the  production set-up is to meet customers' growing demand for more environmentally friendly products as well as increased regulatory requirements.

In 2019 Flügger broke ground for a new state-of-the-art sand filler production plant, built to accommodate the increasing demand for sand filler. The plant was inaugurated in the summer of 2021, and now produces the equivalent of 27 million liters of sand filler annually.

Bankeryd

In Bankeryd lies one of the Swedish factories that manufactures brushes and rolls - most of which are made mechanically. A few selected types of brushes are assembled by hand to secure the right quality of the product.

Bodafors

In the factory in Bodafors we manufacture plastic handles for brushes, rolls and filling knives. Here we also manufacture other plastic components such as lids and packaging.

Poland

The newest Flügger factory is situated in Gdansk.

In Gdansk, Poland, lies the most modern wall paper factory in all of Europe. In 2009 Flügger built the factory with 40 percent subsidy from the EU. The year after it was built, the factory began its production.
